Peru's Grande ends fifth at 2018 Karate 1-Series A

Peruvian karateka Alexandra Grande secured the fifth spot at Karate 1-Series A Guadalajara 2018 —the second tournament of the season.

The event took place February 9-11 in Guadalajara, Spain and is one of the four tournaments in which competitors can earn ranking points this year.

The 28-year-old won four of six bouts at the competition. 

She defeated Taipei's Weining Hsu (3-0) in the first round, and Brazil's Erica Santos (2-0) in the second one.

In the next two rounds, the Peruvian edged out Mexico's Xhunashi Caballero (2-0) as well as Sweden's Anna-Johanna Nilsson (1-0).

However, she was defeated by Dominican Republic's Karina Diaz (4-3), failing to reach the semifinals. 

Finally, Grande lost to Tunisia's Hasnaoui Boutheina (3-0) in the repechage pool, thus ending fifth. 

It must be noted other five national athletes participated in the competition. They fought in the kata and kumite categories. 

As is known, Grande is an outstanding athlete who belongs to the Top Peru Lima 2019 Pan American Games team.
