On the occasion of the Workers’ day, Labor Minister Nancy Laos, on behalf of the government, expressed her appreciation to all workers for contributing with their effort and dedication to the welfare of the country, noting that the employment indicators remain positive.
"In February 2013, Peru achieved 39 months of uninterrupted growth in urban formal employment, a trend that will continue throughout this year at the national level", she said.
Laos stressed this positive trend in employment has a direct impact on growth of formal jobs, and a reduction in unemployment and underemployment rates.

"The Labor day is an excellent opportunity to renew the government’s commitment to work tirelessly to improve working conditions and provide an excellence and closeness service for workers and employers," the Minister said.

Humala’s administration has implemented employment programs such as Trabaja Perú (Peru work), Jóvenes a la Obra (Youth at work), Vamos Perú (Let’s go Peru) and Perú Responsible (Responsible Peru)

She noted they are meant to help vulnerable groups, such as female-headed households, unemployed youth and disabled people among others.

The Minister continued, "During 2012, these programs benefited about 110,000 Peruvians and it is projected to create 500,000 temporary jobs, train to 400,000 unemployed persons and certify skills to 6,488 people at the national level by 2016."
