The construction of the recently-awarded Peru’s southern gas pipeline is expected to provide the needed energy endowment to undertake stalled large-scale projects in the nation’s key sectors of mining and agribusiness.

The National Chamber of Commerce, Production, Tourism and Services (Perucamaras) hailed Tuesday the massive spending initiative for having a direct impact on job creation through both the construction works and development of the contract.

“The inner regions along southern Peru will now have a cheapest and cleanest source of energy supply with constant flow,” the entity’s head, Peter Anders, told El Peruano official daily.

“The pipeline project, which requires an investment worth US$ 4 billion. will meet the required conditions for the development of the petrochemical industry,” head said to reporters from the above state-funding daily.

He added, “This is expected to be carried out through fractionation facilities which will generate raw material expected to be used by the domestic industry of exportation means”.

Anders pointed out the project will enhance the competitiveness of regions where tourism stands out as the main source of income by reducing energy costs when using this renewable and profitable source which supports the local economy.

Likewise, the top Perucamaras official stressed gas supply will allow to provide better attention and needed supplies to low-income families affected by cold spell in the nation’s highlands as well as to protect their livestock.

“Arequipa has large industrial capacity which will further fostering when local authorities pledge their efforts to move the region’s power plants from liquid oil fuel to natural gas,” the foremost businessman of the agency noted.

Anders continued, “The cement production and mining output from this southern Peruvian region will be the most favored sectors with the use of natural gas by reducing their maintenance costs ”.
