Peru's exports of fresh grapes rose from a year earlier in the first half on a large increase in shipments to Asian countries and the United States.

In the January-June period, the Andean country shipped US$ 128 million worth of fresh grapes, up nine percent from the same period last year, according to Peru's Foreign Trade Society, Comex Peru.

Citing official figures, ComexPeru said that fresh grapes were the second most exported agricultural product in this period and ranked sixth among non-traditional exports in general.

China was the main destination for the country's fresh grapes exports between January and June this year, accounting for 21.9% of all shipments.

Exports to the Asian giant were valued at US$ 28 million during the period, representing a 151 percent increase from a year ago.

Other major markets for fresh grape exports were Hong Kong with $22.5 million (up 17.5 percent y-o-y), the Netherlands with 17.6 million (up 13.7 percent y-o-y) and the United States with 16.6 million (13 percent more).
