The First Lady, Nadine Heredia, visited facilities of ICAM, the well-known Italian chocolate factory famous for the quality of its products.

Peruvian cocoa is used in one of its recently launched chocolate lines "Vanini Bagua".

Italy recognizes Peruvian cocoa "since quality comes first," she said.

Recently, ICAM’s Vanini Chocolate line buys up to 86% cocoa produced by farmers from a Baguan community. Bagua is a province belonging to the Amazonas region.

Mrs. Heredia also expressed ICAM aims at extending its presence in Peru. "They are eager for Peruvian cacao, and this is an opportunity for the [Peruvian] people," she said.

ICAM works its entire production line by selecting the premium cocoa picked in countries like Peru.

This Italian factory gets raw material from different Peruvian suppliers like: the VRAEM Cocoa Producers Association, located in the Ayacucho Region (annual total of 800 tonnes); and The Agrarian Cooperative ACOPAGRO, which sells an average 2,000 tonnes.
