Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros on Tuesday underlined the good performance of Peruvian exports, projected to reach US$44 billion by end-2017.
"We'll close the year with an expansion of about 25%, reaching US$44 billion which will place Peru as the country with the
highest [exports] growth [rate] in the continent," he added.
Within this context, Ferreyros noted he expects added-value exports to join this dynamism and remain on the upward trend.
For instance,
fishing (+33%), iron-steel (+15%),
farming (+11%), as well as metal-mechanic (+10%) sectors experienced increases during the first nine months of 2017.
Dynamism was also seen in the textile sector (+5.4%), which offset the decline registered at the beginning of the current year.
Exports Growth
According to World Trade Organization (WTO) figures, Peru's export growth stood at 25% in the January-September period, becoming the nation with the highest rate in the continent.
Likewise, Peru's
total shipments amounted to US$32.408 billion in the analyzed period.
"This dynamism enabled Peru to position itself as the continent's most dynamic exporter, thus exceeding the region's average growth [rate] by up to 17%."
It must be noted the Inca nation has the fourth-most dynamic growth rate worldwide, only surpassed by Kazakhstan (+31.4%), Australia (+28.1%), and Russia (+25.7%).
