Peruvian exports of evaporated milk have increased 59 percent during the first quarter of 2012, up to US$ 28 million, the Peru's Foreign Trade Society (ComexPeru) reported Sunday.
Exports of this product have been showing an upward trend in recent years. In 2010 they grew 30 percent reaching a value of US77 million while in 2011 they jumped 22 percent, totaling US$94 million.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture (Minag), the production of fresh milk, soared three percent during the first quarter and the main producing regions are Lima, Cajamarca and Arequipa, accounting for 12, 18 and 20 percent of the national production, respectively.
During the first three months of the year, Peru exported evaporated milk to Haiti with shipments worth US$ 13 million (up 130 percent), Gambia US$ 2.4 million (12 percent), Bolivia US$ 1.9 million (54 percent ) and Bahamas US$ 1.8 million (87 percent).
