Peru's copper production will amount to 2.5 million tons in 2017, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde projected on Tuesday.
The result would mean an increase compared to the amount (2.3 million tons) registered last year.
Velarde underlined copper is Peru's top export product. In this sense, the Inca country is the world's second-largest
copper producer, only behind Chile.
"We [Peru] produced 1.2 million tons [of copper] in 2014 and 2.3 million tons last year, plus we expect to produce 2.5 million tons this year," Velarde said.
"Also, we hope to produce 2.7 million tons in 2018," he added.
Better conditions
The BCR head affirmed better conditions are being created to benefit the world's economy.
In this sense, International Monetary Fund's (
IMF) 2017 growth forecast climbed from 3.4% to 3.5%. Said projection is supported by the performance of developed economies.
