Business tourism in Peru is expected to generate US$2 billion in revenues in 2014, up from the US$1,2 billion recorded last year, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) reported on Sunday.
According to Canatur's President Jorge Jochamowitz, business tourism will show greater dynamism from August as more international meetings, congresses, forums and several visits for market research will take place starting that month.
Likewise, he explained that business tourists will visit Peru to monitor their trading and investment activities, to visit their clients, to train their staff and to program their activities for the following year.
"Business tourists usually visit the country in the months of September and October, in order to make schedules for next year," he told Andina News Agency.
Jochamowitz went on to note that the Andean country has great advantages for the development of this sector due its rapid economic growth, which is increasingly attracting investors from the region and around the world.
Furthermore, the official said that this increased demand will require greater investment in hotel infrastructure, especially in five-star hotels, therefore, the state and private sector must continue working together to promote more investments not only in Lima but in other Peruvian regions.
According to Canatur, nearly 831,000 business tourists visited Peru in 2012, while in 2013, the South America country welcomed a whopping 1,2 billion tourists. Business visitors mainly come from Chile, the United States, Brazil and Spain.
