The Peru-Japan Countervalue Fund presented a generous 18-ton relief donation to Peru's National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) to assist natural disaster victims.

The Fund manages resources provided by the Government of Japan to support the Inca nation's population living in extreme poverty, thus complementing actions by the Peruvian Government.

Forms of aid include emergency response efforts for disasters.

In this respect, the Fund took the decision to provide humanitarian assistance through Indeci as soon as state of emergency was declared.

In turn, Indeci will distribute said aid to families affected by recent heavy rains, consequent overflowing and landslides in Peru, particularly in northern regions.

The contribution comprises 1,000 folding beds and mattresses, 300 tables, 600 folding chairs, as well as 300 personal hygiene kits.

The presentation ceremony saw the presence of Japanese Ambassador to Peru Tatsuya Kabutan, Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation Executive Director Jorge Pablo Voto-Bernales and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representative Masayuki Eguchi.

Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry representative Ambassador Jose Antonio Bellina and Peru-Japan Countervalue Fund Executive Secretary Margarita Imano were also present at the event.
