PeruDesignNet week, a project organized by Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) and Istituto Europe de Design (IED), will seek to turn the country into a model for change, progress, as well as an innovation platform, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed.

The event, to be held on November 2-7, means the consolidation of an initiative kicked off last May. It was based on two relevant stages: A call to entrepreneurs and for ideas.

120 Peruvian enterprises joined and 360 proposals by designers from 50 different countries were submitted. These were linked to the handicraft, tourism and gastronomy sectors.

42 finalist projects were chosen, which creators are due to arrive in Lima. They will attend 5-day workshops at the six preselected small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in Lima, Chiclayo and Cusco cities. Afterwards, they will present their corresponding projects.

Selected enterprises are tourism sector-related Llamapack (Cusco), Peru For Less; Amaz Food and Piscosour.com (gastronomy sector); as well as Tulpa & Mezcla and Artesano de Tucume (Lambayeque) from the handicraft sector.

General admission is free from November 5 to 7 at Lima’s Contemporary Museum (MAC). Professionals, academicians, businessmen and citizens will be allowed to participate in conferences on innovation and design, inno-talks.

Concerning hybridizations between traditional and technological sectors, a hackathon (aimed at creating collective innovative ideas to provide user solutions), as well as exhibitions focused on design and its interaction with handicraft, tourism and gastronomy sectors will be held.

During the closing ceremony, six winners will be announced, who will make their project dreams come true for the SMEs.
