Bilateral relations between Peru and Canada are “at their best,” especially in defense and education-related matters, Canadian Ambassador to Peru Patricia Fortier affirmed.

The diplomat added the bonds have been highly strengthened over the past three years due to the leadership displayed by Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, Canadian Head of State David Lloyd Johnston and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

She went on to add Peru is “achieving considerable changes at all levels and sectors.”

The Canadian Ambassador participated in the inauguration of the Peruvian Armed Forces Higher Technological Institute on Saturday, where “high-generation” Canadian-crafted equipment will be used.

Fortier indicated current Peruvian Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi and his predecessor, Pedro Cateriano, “played an important role” in the execution of the corresponding project aimed at creating the said institute, while “ensuring efficiency and promptness.”

The Ambassador affirmed Canada is "proud to participate" in such relevant initiative as this education center.

The said institute will provide soldiers an opportunity to gain access to technical-professional careers after having served in the Armed Forces, she added.

The ceremony was attended by Peru’s President Ollanta Humala, the President of the Council of Ministers Pedro Cateriano and Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi. The event also saw the participation of other Armed Force high-level officers.
