Peru's Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations and the Ministry of Environment have joined efforts to elaborate the Climate Change and Gender Action Plan (PAGCC-Peru).
It will be submitted at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) to be held in Paris on November 30th - December 11th, 2015.
The commitment was assumed by the Peruvian State during the COP20 -held in Lima in 2014- which enabled Peru to become the first South American country and the 19th in the world to elaborate this type of project.
The said plan is a public management tool aimed at guiding State-undertaken efforts towards mitigation of disasters caused by climate change in accordance with gender equality principles.
The document proposes eight priority issues: forests, water resources, energy, food safety, solid waste, health, education and risk management.
This plan is being developed on participatory and multisectoral basis. Thus, a national public consultation has been conducted since September with the aim of collecting contributions from social organizations and citizens across the country.
