Peru voted world’s second best tourism destination

Peru has been voted the world’s second best tourism destination by readers of UK tourism magazine Wanderlust.

The South American country came second in the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2013 with a 96.58 percent satisfaction rating from the magazine’s 3,000 surveyed readers who are described as UK's most dynamic tourists.

Myanmar/Burma took the top spot with 96.98 percent while New Zealand (96.25), Bhutan (95.63) and Jordan (95.56) came in third, fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Top City category, the Andean city of Cusco in southeastern Peru also ranked second with 95.76% satisfaction rating, behind Hoi An, Vietnam (97.18%).

Cusco, Peru – the gateway to UNESCO world heritage site Machu Picchu – is back in the top 10 for the first time since 2009.
