U.S. Ambassador to Peru Brian A. Nichols expressed confidence that Peruvian government will have reached its goal of having eradicated 35,000 hectares of illegal coca crops by the end of 2015.
The diplomat noted 25,000 hectares of illicit crops were destroyed so far this year.
“Progress has been made in the fight against drug-trafficking,” the diplomat expressed.
“I think Peru will break the record achieved in 2014; 31,000 hectares. The U.S. is committed to supporting Peru on the matter throughout the current and upcoming years. We are partners in this,” Mr. Nichols stated.
Remarks were made after holding a meeting with Congress Chairman Luis Iberico. Likewise, the U.S. official addressed the importance of maintaining friendship, cooperation and existing commercial relations with the South American country.
"Relations between United States and Peru are extremely important, and especially with Congress. The Chairman has been generous by receiving us, and we have talked about matters of mutual interest,” the Ambassador expressed.
