Peru unbeaten at girls' U18 volleyball world champs

Peru came from behind to beat Chinese Taipei 3-2 on the third day of the FIVB Girls' U18 World Championship in Thailand on Sunday.

The Peruvians overcame the Asian team 23-25 25-19 25-27 25-20 15-9 to make it three wins in a row in Pool D at the Liptapanlop Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima.

In a hotly-contested battle, Angela Leyva led Peru with 26 points including 23 devastating attacks, while Chen Tzu Ya emerged as the top scorer of Chinese Taipei after scoring 25 points.

World No.10 Peru, the first team which arrived in the host city since July 16, top their pool with seven points, followed by defending champions Turkey and Italy.

Also in Pool D, Italy pulled off a convincing straight-set 25-15 25-12 25-17 victory over underdogs Mexico to capture their first win in the Jul. 26-Aug. 4 tournament.
