The second round of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Peru and Turkey will take place in Ankara later this month, according to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

"A Mincetur delegation will leave the country this January 24 for the second round of FTA talks with Turkey, which is an interesting country that we can learn from and work with on joint strategies," Minister Magali Silva said on Tuesday.

The delegation will include officials from the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), National Superintendance of Tax Administration (Sunat) and the National Service of Agrarian Health (Senasa).

Silva recalled that a Turkish government delegation arrived in Lima last October for the launch and first round of bilateral free trade negotiations, which yielded "important results" after a week of meetings.

The minister noted that Peru and Turkey intend to make rapid progress in these negotiations as they seek to conclude the pact in less than three or four years.

"A negotiation process can take three or four years, but we hope this process to go much faster. The final result will depend on the work of the negotiating teams, the priorities and the strategies of both countries," she said.
