International tourism operators participating in 2017 Peru Travel Mart (PTM2017) have set off on tours around destinations like Machu Picchu and the Nazca Lines, the national Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed Friday.

The Inca nation currently hosts PTM2017, the country's most important tourism promotion event taking place on May 5-8 at Lima Convention Center.

As part of the event, PromPeru has invited tourism operators from prioritized tourist feeder markets to experience first-hand Peru's rich variety of cultural and natural attractions.

Said international delegations come from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, South Korea, Belgium, India and Ecuador, which accounted for 32.8% of Peru's tourist inflow in 2016.

Traveling south

To promote Peru's luxury travel offer —highly valued in the Asian market— PromPeru invited ten travel agents from South Korea and India to enjoy Lima, Ica and Cusco regions' creme de la creme from April 28 to May 5.

The route sought to promote Peruvian southern circuit's main tourist attractions, such as Cusco city, the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, as well as enigmatic Nazca Lines.

Asian visitors also got to indulge in Lima's world-renowned culinary offer.

The north guide

On the other hand, 15 tourism operators from the U.S., France, Japan, Canada, the UK and Belgium were invited on a trip around north-eastern Amazonas region on May 1-5.

This circuit sought to promote Amazonas' tour gems, like Kuelap Fortress —and its recently-opened cable car system— plus Gocta Waterfalls.

Lastly, Ecuadorian travel agents were chosen to enjoy capital Lima's tourism proposals, including gastronomic treats and a shopping spree.

Following the familiarization trips, international tourism operators will join national tour operators in PTM's business-round.

Peru Travel Mart

As the Andean country's leading tourism platform, Peru Travel Mart has convened national and international tour companies since 1987.

This year, a total of 135 tourism operators from 33 countries will participate in the major business-round, co-organized for the third consecutive year by Peru's National Tourism Chamber (Canatur) and PromPeru.

The Peruvian offer will feature 134 national firms, including tour operators, hotels, airlines, cruises, restaurants, land transport, among others.
