Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) is planning to unlock investments worth more than S/.25 billion (about US$7.4 billion) between July 2015 and July 2016 by signing 23 addenda, of which 11 —worth S/.19 billion or US$5.62 billion— have been already inked, the head of the portfolio Jose Gallardo announced.

“S/.19 billion of addenda has been unlocked to date by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. We have a S/.3 billion (around US$888 million) package and another S/.3 billion will be unlocked by July next year,” he said.

According to Gallardo, the amount represents “fresh resources,” as they involve projects that are maturing.

He also noted that two of the 11 addenda signed in August 2015 are involved in the Carretera Central road improvement project, and that, to date, have yielded results.

“Works on the 50-km stretch of Carretera Central road —in its upper part in La Oroya area towards Huancayo— will be completed by December 20. The construction of two roundabouts and the opening of third lanes to overtake other vehicles come as a result of this unlocking,” he highlighted.
