For the first time in history, Lima's soup kitchens will offer their best dishes at Mistura gastronomic fair, while getting close the most distinguished chefs of the city.

The participants will be soup-kitchen cooks, who hold the first spots in the fourth edition of the "Teresa Izquierdo" contest, launched on Tuesday by the Development and Social Inclusion Minister Paola Bustamante and the Peruvian Society of Gastronomy (Apega) President, Bernardo Roca Rey.

During the presentation, the head of the Ministry reminded the Apega’s decision to include such organizations responds to a request by Peruvian President Ollanta Humala.

In this sense, she emphasized the great contribution made by soup kitchens to provide healthy food, above all to little children, which is aimed at preventing them from suffering from chronic malnutrition.

On the other hand, Roca Rey said the "Teresa Izquierdo" prize means a recognition for many women’s tireless fight to move their families forward.

Of the more than current 3,000 soup kitchens located in Lima Metropolitan Area, 105 have been selected. Those will enter a semi-final round on April 14-18.
On that stage, besides the dishes' flavors, kitchen management, service, presentation, proper handling of food will be taken into consideration to declare the winners.

The first three spot holders will each be granted a booth at Mistura 2015 to sell their nutritious dishes at affordable prices.

During Tuesday’s presentation event, mothers offered dishes made of native products such as: Papa a la huancaina with quinoa, quinoa-made crema volteada, pachamanca and parihuela, among others.
