An exhibition of Peru’s pre-Columbian and Inca artifacts will be on display at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, Russia, from March 19 to May 29, 2013.
This exhibition of ancient luxury items is named “1000 Years of Inca Gold” and showcases amulets, jewelry and ritual plate, made from pure gold - dark gold that changed through thousands of hands.
The exposition includes 86 items but the number of objects brought to Moscow from Peru is much higher, the exhibition’s curator Kira Vyazovikina, a scientific worker of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, says.
"There are objects consisting of several fragments. It seems to me that one of the most interesting things at the exhibition is a ritual plate set consisting of a head-dress, a crown, and a death mask. The whole set includes approximately 15 objects."
The Incas ruled the territory of today’s Peru from the 14th to the 16th century. However, some of the gold artifacts which will be presented in Moscow date back to the 1st century B.C., english.ruvr.ru reported.
The Gold Museum in Lima is considered to be one of the main sights of interest in Peru. It shows its collection in many countries. Before arriving in Moscow, this collection was shown in Prague, Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, and Leipzig.
The Peruvian gold was exhibited in Moscow in the 70s of last century. That is why the success of the current exhibition is guaranteed. From Moscow this collection will go to Brussels.
Russian museums have big collections of gold, including the Scythian gold which is part of the Hermitage Museum collection in St. Petersburg and the Mycenaean gold of Heinrich Schlieman which makes up part of the collection of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
