Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna will participate in the 47th Regular Session of the Organization of American States' (OAS) General Assembly, set to take place in Cancun (Mexico) on June 19-21.

The government official's trip was approved by Supreme Resolution No. 090-2017-PCM, published today in the official gazette El Peruano.

Justice and Human Rights Minister Maria Soledad Perez Tello will take over the Foreign Affairs portfolio, while Luna is absent.

General Assembly

This year, the event will revolve around the theme "Strengthening Dialogue and Concerted Action for Prosperity."

In this context —and as head of the Summits of the Americas Process— Peru will preside over the Meeting of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG) taking place on Tuesday, June 20.

The General Assembly is the supreme organ of the Organization of American States.

As such, it is composed of the delegations accredited by the governments of the member states, usually led by their corresponding Foreign Affairs Ministers.

General Assembly sessions involve decision-making on OAS' work, as well as the work of OAS bodies regarding the strengthening of democracy, sustainable development, hemisphere security, human rights, among others.
