Peru will open 12 new markets in Asia and Oceania for agricultural exports, the National Agricultural Sanitation Service (Senasa) informed.

To this end, a delegation of Senasa experts traveled to Malaysia, where it has been meeting with authorities from the country's Department of Agriculture (DOA) in order to lift sanitation barriers.

According to Senasa, DOA officials were satisfied with the Inca nation’s production system for export fruit.

In the case of Peruvian grapes, adjustments are required to fit existing regulations, since the product has not been subject to a Plague Risk Analysis.

Senasa expects said study to be carried out shortly so as to begin grape shipments for the next export season.

In this respect, the Peruvian team committed to submitting corresponding technical information, as well as holding a new meeting in the short term to analyze progress made.

Other destinations

As part of the country's agro-exports promotion strategy, the experts will also arrive in India this week. There, the delegation will present Senasa's responsible work, which guarantees compliance with sanitary regulations for agricultural trade.

Senasa will also meet with agricultural sanitation authorities from South Korea, China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, as well as other Asian and Oceania economies to open up new markets for Peruvian agricultural products.
