Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura said Peru will expand by 4% annually in the following two years, on average, showing an upward trajectory as a result of the investment in the future and human capital.

“The growth level won’t be the same, but in the next two years the country will grow at an average rate of 4% per year on an upward trajectory,” he said.

The economist stressed Peru invests in the future and human capital by implementing public policies to improve education.

This is in order to improve conditions of future growth.

“We have made a real effort to invest in infrastructure and we have committed tens of thousands of dollars to the construction phase which, in terms of short-term growth, will generate public investment,” he noted.

Segura assured the Government is working on the development of policies to improve competitiveness.

The government official pointed out it was an exaggeration to talk about “pessimism” concerning national economy, since “it is growing and its pace of expansion is accelerating despite external shocks.”

Moreover, he said, nothing suggests a change in economic model as part of the new electoral process.

Finally, he noted the Government’s National Plan for Productive Diversification is a decentralized initiative and everything is being assembled.

“There are many reasons to have confidence in the country and keep leading economic growth in the region,” he added.

The economist participated in the conference and launch of the book entitled “Peru: Staying the Course of Economic Success.”

Such event was organized as part of the “Road to Lima” campaign, a joint initiative between the IMF and the government of Peru leading up to the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in Lima from October 5 to 12, 2015.
