Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) is set to take part in the 11th Energy Ministers Meeting (EMM) of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) trade group, to be held on 2-3 September 2014 in the city of Beijing, China.

The two-day event will allow APEC ministers to take joint actions to promote sustainable energy development across the Asia-Pacific region.

Likewise, issues to be discussed at the meeting include, among others, energy security, trade and investment in the sector, energy efficiency, and development of clean and renewable energy technologies.

The Peruvian delegation will be comprised of Juan Ortiz, and Raquel Zuniga as well as MEM's officials, who will be accompanied by Ambassador Miguel Palomino, according to a ministerial resolution published on Wednesday.

Accounting for around 60 percent of world energy demand, the APEC region is a net energy importer and its demand for energy is on the rise.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts, global energy demand would increase by 40 percent in 2030. These factors make energy cooperation an important agenda item for APEC.
