Peru's Economy and Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne has just confirmed his resignation from the Executive Branch.

The economist on Wednesday lost a confidence vote at Congress.

A Parliament plenary session resulted in 88 votes against, 2 abstentions and 11 in favor of the cabinet member's continuation in office.

The decision was taken following a debate, during which parties expressed their stance on the matter.

Following the result, the 61-year-old had to sign his resignation letter and leave the cabinet.

Last week, he attended a Congress session to address a phone conversation he had with Comptroller General Edgar Alarcon weeks ago, which resulted in controversy.

Via Twitter, the former World Bank Group officer thanked the support he had received throughout recent months.
