Peru and Thailand has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on education as scholarships will be given to students of both nations, it was reported.
Peruvian President Ollanta Humala made an official visit to the Southeast Asian nation on Oct. 5, on his way to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Indonesia.
During his state visit, President Humala met with Thailand’s Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang in Bangkok where both parties signed an MoU on education, aimed at providing scholarships for students through exchange programs.
President Ollanta praised Thailand for its strong education foundation as there are many potential universities in Thailand.
Moreover, the Peruvian leader met with a group of Thai businessmen to discuss investment opportunities as Thailand is Peru’s biggest business partner in South East Asia.
Likewise, the head of State also expressed his desire to use Thailand as a production base.
Later on, President Humala travelled to the Government House where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. The two Premiers witnessed signing of 4 MoUs on extradition, nuclear technology, investment, and public health.
The two parties also agreed on Thailand-Peru free trade agreement which will allow 80 percent of Thai products to Peru tariff-free, while 90 percent of Peruvian products exported to Thailand will be 0% tax.
