Peru: State of emergency declared in 5 Arequipa districts

Prime Minister Fernando Zavala declared State of emergency in five districts belonging to Arequipa region's Caylloma province following August 14 earthquake.

"We have taken the decision to declare State of emergency in the following districts: Cabanaconde, Huambo, Lari, Tapay and Tute, belonging to Caylloma province in Arequipa region. All those districts were affected by earthquake [...]," he told reporters.

As is known a 5.2-magnitude quake hit the Southern Peruvian area on August 14.

At a press conference following the fourth Council of Ministers session, Zavala affirmed the declaration was required to implement immediate measures.

He also reaffirmed the decision will contribute to the rehabilitation of areas hit by disaster.

Likewise, the Defense sector makes arrangements to lead an earthquake drill in the region.
