Peru's Justice Minister Maria Soledad 'Marisol' Perez Tello and Spain's counterpart Rafael Catala Polo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to share experiences and good practices in justice, crime prevention and human rights protection.
Under this agreement, both ministries vow reciprocal cooperation in fields of information, policies and legislation so as to prevent crime in all its forms, especially offences committed by teenagers.
Likewise, the governmental bodies agree to cooperate in fight against corruption, organized crime, terrorism, human trafficking, cybercrime and money laundering.
As for international legal cooperation, Peru and the Kingdom of Spain will work together on
extraditions, legal requests and transfers of condemned persons.
Other areas of cooperation include: upgrades and new technologies in the justice system, training of legal practitioners, forensics and other related topics.
Also, Perez Tello inked a deal with Ibero-American Legal Assistance Network (IberRed) Secretary General Arkel Benitez to regulate the use of Secure Communication System (Iber@).
The Peruvian minister took part in subsequent audiences with Spanish Senate President Pio Garcia Escudero and the Executive Secretary of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) Rebecca Grynspan, who organizes the Ibero-American Community Forum.
She also met executives from Humanism and Democracy Foundation (H+D), a Spanish organization working to end poverty, as well as promote equity and values.
The aforementioned organization submitted the formal
nomination of Ruth Buendia, leader of Peru's Ashaninka indigenous people, for the Bartolome de las Casas Prize.
The Peruvian official attended the award ceremony featuring King Felipe VI of Spain.
