Trade between Peru and South Korea totaled US$2.601 billion in 2014, and it is expect to continue on the "upward trend" thanks to the benefits provided by free trade, the Chairman of the Lima’s Chamber of Commerce, Jorge von Wedemeyer, said

“We believe trade can be greater thanks to the existing complementarity, the benefits of [both] free trade, investments, and above all due to the bilateral cooperation,” he told.

In the framework of the South Korea – Peru Entrepreneur Forum, currently held in Lima, von Wedemeyer indicated trade between both countries “would not only increase,” but “also diversify.”

Currently, the US$560-billion South Korean economy has a GDP per capita worth US$33,000.

"South Korea is among the 13 most developed economies. Due to its industry and natural attractions, it is has set an example for Peru on how to achieve people's prosperity by overcoming adversity," said the CCL President.

He reminded the country undertook efforts aimed at developing road infrastructure projects and boosting the telecommunications sector. Thanks to the changes, which started in the decade of 1970, the country achieved a higher level of competitiveness in the world, he highlighted.

Despite the global crisis, Peru “displays” economic and legal stability for investors, which will contribute to boosting trade and business, von Wedemeyer said.
