For the fourth consecutive year, Peru was crowned South America’s Leading Culinary Destination and Leading Cultural Destination by World Travel Awards 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) informed.
The recognition was awarded in Colombia on October 10, 2015.
Thanks to the professionalism of Peru's private sector, it captured other 8 prizes; 6 for the national hotel industry and 2 for tour operators.
"Our gastronomy and culture put us on display [...]. Both categories turn Peru into a unique destination and remind us that we can attract more tourists by maintaining our identity and traditions, as well as by providing quality services," Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed.
"It is a sector that contributes 4% to the national economy's GDP," she added.
"The fact that Peru is receiving these prizes every year is made possible thanks to the sustainable work undertaken by the government along with the private sector; this commits us to continue working on the activity for the benefit of many Peruvians," the Minister expressed.
Private sector prizes:
Best Airport Hotel: Wyndham Costa del Sol.
Best Business Hotel: Swissotel Lima.
Best Casino Hotel: Los Delfines Hotel & Casino.
Best Heritage Hotel: Belmond Hotel Monasterio.
Best Resort Hotel: Hotel Paracas, a Luxury Collection Resort.
Best Romantic Resort Hotel: Belmond Miraflores Park.
Best Leading Green Tour Operator: Explorandes.
Best Tour Operator: Yampu Tours.
In 2012, Peru claimed the first spot in the South America's Best Culinary Destination category, which enabled the country to participate in the finale held in India. It captured the title of the World's Best Culinary Destination.
A year later, Peru was declared the official venue for hosting the event. At that time it was granted South America's Best Culinary Destination prize for the second consecutive year.
In 2014, Peru won the same prizes at the ceremonies held in Ecuador (regional edition) and in the Caribbean island of Anguilla (world edition).
