More than 72,000 Peruvian families will break the poverty cycle they were in for decades thanks to Peru's National Program for Scholarships and Educational Loans, known as Pronabec, which granted various forms of aid to talented students living in poverty and extreme poverty, Education Ministry spokespersons informed.

Advisor at Pronabec Executive Directorate Sergio Ramos Cucci said although it is important to highlight that 72,050 students have benefited from different scholarship schemes such as Beca 18, among others, what needs to be remarked is the process of change this situation creates in their families and environment.

“It’s important to verify the history of life of each student, since by doing so we can confirm how the system has kept them away from higher education for years in spite of having the required kills,” he commented during his participation in the Incluir para Crecer (Include to Grow) program broadcast online through Andina news agency.

The lack of money at home is what prevents people from accessing university education or high technological education, and the State investment to grant scholarships is an unprecedented event in the history of the country.

Ramos Cucci went on to add that the impact of Beca 18 in students’ lives is enormous, since it allows them to access higher quality studies, move forward academically, reduce interruption of studies due to economic reasons, and they are less likely to end up in unskilled jobs.

“Scholars are those who get better grades than regular students, which proves they can get opportunities despite the difficult time they face,” he indicated.
