Development and Social Inclusion Minister Cayetana Aljovin met with representatives of over 120 Wampis indigenous communities.

Such communities are based in the districts of Morona and Santiago belonging to Datem del Marañón (Loreto region) and Condorcanqui provinces, Amazonas region.

At the work meeting, Awajun Wampis Peoples' Permanent Council President Wrays Perez Ramirez congratulated the Minister on behalf of the 65 indigenous communities he represents.

He also took the opportunity to express his trust in measures to be taken by the incoming administration aimed at bringing government services closer to poverty-stricken communities.

The indigenous leader expressed his appreciation for Minister Aljovin's openness.

The Minister paid close attention to his suggestions to expand coverage of different social programs in the districts of Morona and Santiago.

“I am here on behalf of 15,000 indigenous Wampis people to welcome the start of dialogue with the new administration," Perez expressed.

"While it is true our community will remain vigilant and cautious regarding social programs auditing, we will also support the government in coordination to expand such programs' coverage," he added.

In turn, Minister Aljovin thanked indigenous leaders for visiting and said they are “the government's eyes in the communities."
