Renowned Shapish dance competition congregates 29 groups from different neighborhoods of Andean Chupaca province.

The said town is located in the northwest of Huancayo city (Junin region).

Groups will challenge counterparts for pecuniary awards and trophies. Winners will be rewarded by Chupaca provincial municipality representatives.

As part of the homage to blessed Cruz de Mayo (May's Cross), the open Shapish  competition started at Independencia Square on Wednesday.

The war-dance performance is divided into three well-defined stages such as: Confrontations between partners (also known as Caramuza) enemy annihilation (Cachua) and battle triumph celebration (Chimaicha).

The dance by Shapish features uniformity, elegance and rhythm.

The festivity in honor of Cruz de Mayo, deemed as the province's greatest expression, will continue in different neighborhoods thru Monday May 9th, day on which banquets will be offered to visitors by artists.

The event gathers thousands of tourists.
