Peru's Development and Social Inclusion Minister Fiorella Molinelli affirmed the Government's goal is to close the poverty gap in order to promote social inclusion and access to opportunities, with a reduction target of 15% by 2021.

The announcement was made during Perumin 33rd Mining Convention held in Peru's southern city of Arequipa.

According to Molinelli, the Government seeks to reduce monetary poverty from 20.7% to 15% by 2021, whereas extreme monetary poverty is projected to fall from 3.8% in 2016 to 1.5% by the end of the Kuczynski administration in 2021.

"The sector's challenge is to articulate social and infrastructure investment, thus closing gaps and ensuring well-being for those most in need," the government official was quoted as saying.

She went on to say that Development and Social Inclusion Ministry's (MIDIS) social programs are intended to reach every corner of the country to provide State services to all the population.
