Peru sends letter to Russia to kick off FTA talks

Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Jose Luis Silva, has sent an official letter to Russia’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, expressing the government’s interest in the launching of negotiations of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Mincetur reported Monday.
Peruvian Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade, Carlos Posada, affirmed that is expected in the coming months Mincetur make the official announcement of the beginning of trade talks with the Russian Federation.

"The minister has formally communicated the government’s intention to his Russian counterpart and we have met with Russian authorities in the country," Posada said in dialogue with Andina news agency.

On the other hand, Posada pointed to Mincetur is also looking to start FTA negotiations with Indonesia.

He noted that after meetings with Indonesian lawmakers, they have expressed the interest of Indonesia’s market for Peruvian products.
