The Peruvian Embassy in Washington D.C. has sent additional information to U.S. authorities, seeking detention of former President Alejandro Toledo, Peru's Public Ministry informed.

On social networks, the Public Ministry informed the document —translated into English— was sent via email on Tuesday and to a physical address on Wednesday.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, "our Embassy submitted further information to [United States] authorities."

Such information was requested by the United States, where Toledo is believed to be holed up, to fulfill the arrest request delivered by Peruvian authorities.

The Public Ministry, through its International Judicial Cooperation and Extraditions Unit (UCJIE), last Friday submitted a request —for provisional arrest to extradite Toledo— to the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Interpol.

According to an international arrest warrant issued by a Peruvian judge, Toledo Manrique should spend up to 18 months in jail, while he is investigated for allegedly taking US$20 million in bribes from Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht.

He is accused of receiving bribes from the Brazilian builder to obtain the bid of Interoceanica highway. Payments are believed to be made through Toledo's friend, Josef Maiman.
