Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduardo Martinetti has embarked on a Europe tour, including stops in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway, in a bid to enhance relations with those countries at political, economic and cooperation levels.
Martinetti is expected to hold working meetings with his counterparts and senior authorities, as well as with organizations for economic empowerment and business associations.
While in Finland, the Peruvian official will attend the Fourth Meeting for Bilateral Political Consultations along with Secretary of State Karl Peter Stenlund, with whom he will evaluate actions intended to reinforce the cooperation in education, science, technology, innovation, defense and fight against illicit trafficking of drugs.
The discussion will also be focused on the Pacific Alliance, the situation in Europe (refugee and Eurozone crisis), regional integration, and global challenges to peace and security.
To Peru, strengthening relations with Nordic countries is one of the key elements of a strategy to optimize relations with Europe, since these are very competitive and leading economies in terms of science, technology, human development, prosperity, transparency and good governance.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these are countries with high purchasing power and their markets are of prime interest to Peru.
They also make important investments in strategic fields such as logistics, port, hydro and thermal power, and agro-industrial sectors.
