The recently-appointed Head of State Pedro Pablo Kuczynski highlighted the security issue while addressing the nation in his first presidential speech before local and foreign authorities present in his inauguration.

"We will live a safe country by 2021, when Peru celebrates its bicentennial," the President said after he was sworn in as the new President of the Andean nation.

He seeks to turn Peru into a place "where families can leave their houses without the fear of thieves entering their homes."

Mr. Kuczynski wants a country where parents will not be worried about their children outside home, thinking they might be robbed or killed for a mobile phone.

One of his proposals to tackle the problem involves increasing the salaries of police and military personnel starting September this year.
