Peru's export and tourism promotion board PromPeru has confirmed its participation in the 2014 Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (MITT), the leading and largest travel show in Russia.

The 21st edition of MITT will take place on March 19-22, 2014 at Expocentre in the heart of Moscow.

After a six-year absence, PromPeru will be present at the event with nine tourism professionals charged with promoting the cultural, historical, natural and culinary attractions of the country.

"These Peruvian exhibitors aim to hold at least 300 business meetings with international companies in order to boost the tourism sector in Peru," the government agency said in a statement on Wednesday.

In addition, PromPeru will take the opportunity to launch its international campaign "Peru, Empire of Hidden Treasures" in Russian language.

According to official data, Peru received a total of 8,966 tourists from Russia in 2013, a 5 percent increase over 2012. On average, Russian travelers stay for 12 nights and spend approximately $2,243 per day.
