Peru expressed its rejection of a unilateral declaration of independence by Catalonia and reiterated its support to the Government of Spain, Andean country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.
"Given the recent events in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, the Government of Peru rejects any unilateral act or declaration of independence by Catalonia, whether it be immediate or deferred, since it would be an action contrary to Spain's Constitution and laws," reads an official release.
According to the Andean nation, a potential declaration of independence jeopardizes the
unity of Spain, as well as the rights and freedoms of its people.
