Peru receives US$1.8bn to improve nationwide internet access

Peru will receive an investment worth more than US$ 1.8 billion to improve service bandwidth and optimal fiber, thus spreading internet access to the far reaches of the country.
Javier Manzanares, Peru President of Spanish telecoms Telefonica, noted his firm holds an investment plan through 2016 in the Andean nation as part of its spending commitment to contribute to the territorial, economic and social cohesion. 

“It has been proved broadband penetration boosts Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the countries, We also see the increase in the income of Peruvians who enjoy access to communications technology,” said Manzanares.

In turn, the country’s Deputy Communication Minister, Raul Perez Reyes, stated that broadband is what is making the world and societies evolve and improve.

In this regard, he stressed the broadband internet service and mobile telephony which the Spanish company implements have allowed to enhance communications service in Peru. 

Furthermore, he pointed out that the decrease in the poverty rate in the world over the last 30 years is related with the increasing access population have to improved communications service.
