Peru's President Ollanta Humala held a fruitful working meeting on Thursday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, wrapping up his first state visit to the Middle East
Paying an official visit to this country, President Humala met with the Qatari leader to deliberate ways to boost the two countries' bilateral ties in the key areas including trade, investments and education.
During the meeting, the Qatari Emir and the Peruvian president witnessed the signing ceremony of an economic, trade, investment and technical cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Furthermore, both parties agreed to enhance cooperation in the cultural field by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Peru's National Olympic Committee.
The Qatari delegation included top official representatives of the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah; and Education, Mohammad Al-Hammadi.
Following, the head of the Peruvian State participated in a business leaders forum in Doha where he held a one-on-one talk with the Qatar Investment Autority's (QIA) CEO, Ahmad Mohamed Al-Sayed, an institution managing the Qatari sovereign wealth fund.
The business meeting was intended to promote investments in the Andean nation, and was attended by the CEOs of Qatar Holding companies, Mining Qatar, Qatari Diar, Hassad Food, and Qatar Petroleum International.
President Humala's first-ever visit to the Middle East kicked off in Israel, where he was scheduled to meet with President Shimon Peres and the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On his second stop, Humala paid an official visit to Palestine to hold a bilateral meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas.
