Peru’s forestry sector development will lead towards creating a million direct and formal jobs in the medium term, Peru’s Production Minister Piero Ghezzi affirmed.
The Minister went on to add nearly 2 million hectares could be addressed to the high-potential growth activity.
An average person can properly manage two hectares, where highly-demanded wood species are to be found, he noted.
"Although developed economies have based their [financial] growth on the manufacturing sector, we have the opportunity to rely on the forestry activity," Ghezzi told after participating in the Promoting investments in Peru’s Commercial Forestry Plantation seminar.
Jobs
He went on to add the manufacturing sector has a huge impact on job creation as does the timber industry.
In this sense, the government official highlighted the activity could be considered one growth engine in the medium and long-terms.
Likewise, he mentioned businessmen's interest in carrying out investments in the activity.
