The President of the Council of Ministers, Pedro Cateriano, announced today the government will focus on removing investment barriers, consolidating reforms, fighting against citizen insecurity, drug-trafficking and corruption.

Concerning investments, the Cabinet will pursue certain measures aimed at "boosting" the country's growth and maintaining leadership in the region.

The consolidation of reforms aims at sectors: Health, education and social inclusion. Also, it implies taking actions against citizen insecurity, drug trafficking and corruption.

"We will focus on promoting investments, improving productivity, raising growth rates and creating employment," Cateriano told.

Despite the decline in metal prices and its impact on global economy, optimism was shown concerning the recovery of the mining activity in Peru.

"Therefore, it is essential to continue supporting a mining activity to be developed in a safe and responsible way, [...] while protecting the environment in a framework filled with harmony,” he expressed.

"The country cannot afford to stop […]," the Prime Minister added.

Prime Minister Cateriano seeks a vote of confidence today.

Cateriano Bellido was sworn in as Humala’s new Cabinet Chief on April 2, after his predecessor, Ana Jara, resigned her post in view of the censure motion brought by lawmakers.

Peru’s Prime Minister has held meetings with different politicians, businessmen and civil society representatives before speaking at the Congress.
