The President of the Council of Ministers Pedro Cateriano saluted Peruvian Navy Vice Admiral Gonzalo Rios Polastri, who took over the Presidency of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) in Washington D.C. for the 2015-2016 period.

Thus, Vice Admiral Rios Polastri has become the first Peruvian official to assume this post. 

The IADB’s main purpose is to provide the Organization of American States (OAS) and its member states with technical and educational advice, as well as consultancy services on matters related to military and defense issues in the Hemisphere, in order to contribute to the fulfillment of the OAS Charter.

The election of Rios Polastri sets and important milestone, for he has become the first Peruvian Armed Forces member to be unanimously elected to hold such relevant post.

Created on March 30th, 1942, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) is considered the oldest regional defense organization in the world.
