Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday greeted the National Election Board (JNE) on the occasion of its 86th anniversary serving the country, highlighting its role in the democratic system.

"My special greetings to the National Election Board, which today celebrates 86 years of work," the Head of State affirmed.

The statesman stressed JNE's work to guarantee compliance with Peruvians' will over the said period, during which the Inca country saw 76 electoral processes.

"We want to congratulate you on having defended democracy. Democracy means elections, it means the population can express its hopes and concerns through elections," he pointed out.

The National Election Board is the body governing electoral processes in Peru. As such, it is in charge of ensuring full respect for the people's will, as manifested at polling stations.

JNE's roles include supervising and regulating said processes, as well as promoting informed voting.
