Peruvian President Ollanta Humala claimed the Pacific Alliance balances Latin America’s position and facilitates negotiations with countries in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

“Some blocs in Asia have emerged to create important markets in APEC, and the Pacific Alliance helps balance Latin America’s position within this forum,” he underlined.

In this regard, he confirmed the presence of Chile’s Michelle Bachelet, Colombia’s Juan Manuel Santos and Mexico’s Enrique Peña Nieto at the 10th Presidential Summit of such economic bloc in Peru next week.

“We are building the most dynamic trade economic bloc in Latin America and one of the most dynamic in the world in a transparent way,” he added.

Mr. Humala stressed that 30 countries have signed up as observers of such process.

Besides being an economic bloc, he added, the Pacific Alliance allows countries like Peru, a member of APEC, to negotiate, under better conditions, with recently emerged blocs in the Asian side.

The Summit will kick off on July 2 in the beach area of Paracas in Ica region, south of Lima. Peru will host this important meeting in its capacity as holder of the organization’s Pro Tempore Presidency.

Peruvian leader’s statements were made after opening the Higher Technological Institute of the Armed Forces at the Rafael Hoyos Rubio Fort in El Rimac district.
