Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Fuerza Popular party leader Keiko Fujimori held a one-hour meeting at Lima Cardinal Juan Luis Cripiani's residence this afternoon.

"Dialogue was very useful, honest and constructive," said the Head of State while addressing reporters once the gathering had concluded.

"[…] we have focused on the agenda for the present and the future," he expressed.

Mr. Kuczynski added Peru faces challenges ahead. In this sense, he said his priorities match with those of Fujimori.

"[…] our task is to move the country forward. The Executive [Branch] and Congress are going to make it together. I don't have any doubts that we can work together and thus allow Peru to reach the year 2021 amid prosperity and modernity."

Fujimori

On the other hand, Fujimori assured Fuerza Popular party will respect and strengthen democracy, as well as the constitutional order. She went on to add the dialogue held with the Head of State will lead to positive actions for the country.

The fight against delinquency and corruption, conflict prevention, education and droughts were addressed at the meeting.

"From Fuerza Popular, we are going to continue with the mandate people gave us at polling stations, which is about serving as a constructive opposition," she said.

Fujimori also recalled that her party had been working along with the Executive Branch on initiatives, as well as on proposals introduced by other parties.

Finally, she tanked Lima Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani for fostering and hosting the meeting.

As is known, 78-year-old Kuczynski defeated 41-year-old Fujimori in June's presidential elections. Thus, he took office on July 28 for a five-year period.

Fujimori's party holds the majority in Congress (72 out of 130 legislators). Last week, a motion submitted by said group led to the censure of former Education Minister Jaime Saavedra, who had to resign therefore.
