Peru's next administration must commit to expanding State-run Beca 18 (Scholarship 18) program to 200,000 beneficiaries and ensure Qali Warma reaches high-school students, President Ollanta Humala affirmed on Wednesday.
As is known, Beca 18 was created to grant fellowships to outstanding Peruvian students and thus allow them to purse higher studies at top universities based in the country and overseas.
Qali Warma program delivers breakfast and lunch to Peruvian public school students from underprivileged areas, especially those residing in native communities.
All these measures belong to the government-implemented policy, characterized by the educational budget expansion (2.9%), which contributes to generating more opportunities for remote local communities.
"If you see the results achieved by the government, you will notice its main goal is to work for people from the bottom; that is what the country needed [...]," the top official stressed.
"We have to work right up to the last minute; that is the way to move forward [...]," he expressed.
The President made remarks in the inauguration ceremony of concluded enhancement works on an educational center located in Piura region's Ayabaca province.
The said project entailed an investment worth S/6,859,680 (about US$2.029 million). A total of 380 students and 18 teachers will benefit from the project.
